'Tis The Season

Yep, it's already Christmas time around here! I have been dragging my feet, still wishing for summer. Still wanting to play outside with the hot sun shining. But, alas, as I have found out, the cold still comes even with extreme wishes from me that it wouldn't. So, I figured, I might as well embrace it. At least the holiday seasons that come along with the dropping temperatures.
I mentioned to Sahara that I was thinking about decorating the house Christmasy. Lesson number one, don't ever mention anything that sounds remotely fun to a three year old, unless you are FOR SURE going to do it. Thinking about it is overrated. I wanted to clean everything up first before we decorated, but, with Sahara's repeated question and trying to get the Christmas decorations out herself, I quickly decided that the cleaning would have to wait.

I grabbed the Christmas bin from the closet and we set to work. This was the first year where Sahara could really get into it. And, boy, did she! She flew around throwing fake snow everywhere. Or, at least from the floor to about 3 1/2 feet up. She decided the piano must be covered, bench and all. Ribbons were 'tied' to the dining room chairs. And, ornaments are not just for the Christmas tree. They are also for decorating the baby's exersaucer, dining room chairs, and door and closet knobs. Who knew? The ones she put on the chairs have tiny bells hung from the ornament. She informed me that when we ring the bell, that's how we can call Santa. Of course they had to stay. The snow stayed on the piano for a little while until she thought it was way more fun to pile it on the floor, and lie down with a blanket on top of it. That was eventually put away, as well as the ornaments that had been used to decorate any baby equipment we have around the house.

She had a blast. It was so fun to see her get into the Christmas spirit. She loved everything that came out of the bin. Wanted to open and see it all. I don't think the house has ever been decorated so quickly before. (Mostly from me trying to get it all up before she could get to it!) I think this year is going to be so fun. She is understanding so much more and fully understanding why we celebrate Christmas. She knew exactly who the baby was when she found the nativity set. We do have to work on a few other names, though. I was asking her  the other day who was born on Christmas. She first guessed herself and sister and then went through a couple of her cousins names. I finally told her it was Jesus. I then asked her what Jesus' mother's name was. Without hesitation, she said, "Kevin." I think we have a little bit of work to do before Christmas.  :)

On her list this year is a harmonica, boogie board to take to Florida the next time we go, (which I hope is early next year!), and a toy for Isla. Already lookin' out for the little sissy!

Bring on the cold, stormy nights, hot chocolate, warm fires, and family movie nights, we are ready!
