Before we had kiddos, I always thought, there is no way that my kids
will sleep in my bed when we have them. And, after Sahara was born, I
continued to think that way for a little while. When she was first born,
we kept the cradle right next to our bed. She was not the best sleeper,
and every two hours wanted to eat. There were several times I would
fall asleep nursing her, but most of the time, I would change her
diaper, (which woke her up enough to eat without falling asleep after 2
seconds of nursing), and then feed her and put her back in the cradle.
She was such a loud sleeper, too. We used to call her our tiny goat,
because she would make noises throughout the entire night that sounded
like a ity bity goat. We had read that to help reduce SIDS, the baby
should sleep in the same room as the parents until six months.

We moved the crib into our room when she had grown out of the cradle and she slept fine in her crib until early morning, and then would come into our bed. This was fine with me, because one, she hadn't slept all night in our bed, and two, she was just waaayyy too cute to not snuggle with in the morning. Does anyone else love baby bed head as much as I do?! Cutest.Thing.Ever.

We finally moved Sahara's crib into her own room when she was about 10 months. And, hubby still wasn't sure about that even at that age. But, she seemed to do fine, which to us first-time parents was bittersweet. How could our
tiny baby be able to sleep in her own room, without us? Throughout the next two years, Sahara slept in her room, in her own bed, with early morning snuggles in Mama and Daddy's bed.
When we found out about Arrayah, nothing we did was normal. After that ultrasound, we wanted Sahara next to us, constantly. Sleeping in our bed every night. That was when my ideas about how I would raise my kids to sleep in their own beds went out the window. They are little for such a short time.
Isla has never slept a full night in her crib. Longest amount of crib time has been about 4 hours. I don't even bother laying her down in her crib. Most likely, she will sleep next to us until she is old enough to hold her own, and then we'll throw her in bed with her sister! :)

Can you see the bed head? She doesn't have a whole lot of hair, but enough for the sides to stick out in the morning! |
