The Playroom

I am forever changing things around, which is probably strange, since I have cringed at change for almost my entire life. But, I love to rearrange my furniture all the time. Ja has gotten used to coming home to see a totally rearranged room, only to be moved around in another few weeks. Sometimes I love the arrangement, and so it will stay that way for a couple months, and other times I can't stand it and move it all around the very next day. It keeps life new and just a little bit exciting. It's a like a little bug comes and bites me and I get this jittery feeling like things need to be moved. Changed. Just a little different.

Our house is very small. Only a little over 930 square feet. Just right for a newly married couple and maybe a baby. Not so much for a quick growing family. Both girls are very social, and rarely play alone in their room. Since Sahara was only a few months old, she loved to be where ever I was. She would bring whatever toy she wanted to play with out to where I was. Eventually, every toy from her room would be littered all over the living room floor. Picking up was usually left up to me. Too many trips from the living room to her bedroom trying to find a place for every toy, knowing that it was not going to stay there long. She had a tendency to follow me and realize that every toy I put away looked even more fun to play with now rather than before. I could usually keep up with one busy baby, but with two, keeping the house clean was quite a chore. A constant chore. Both girls are always going. Always running, and always getting into everything. I had to find something to help me keep the house somewhat clean, which in turn would keep my sanity. Somehow a clean house just makes an extremely happy mama.

The sitting room has been the favorite room of the house since day one. So much character. Warm fires in the winter. A cozy couch and movie playing often while listening to a crackling fire. It's small, but it's where most of the family would all squish in and just be together. The only problem was the wood floor was terrible. It smelt bad, and no matter how many times I scrubbed it, it was always filthy. We had a rug down that covered mostly everything, but after a little while, we couldn't stand it anymore. We loved the room too much to keep it that way. So, Ja got to work. He ripped out the entire floor and put down a new one. Beautiful. New. Clean. And, smells great. :)

After he was finished, I got ready to put the furniture back in, when it hit me. A great idea. A real whopper. I knew what we needed to keep these wonderful, busy, crazy, beautiful girls happy. A playroom. Instead of putting the couch and rest of the furniture back in the room, I got busy gathering every toy in the house and finding a place for them in the new playroom. I bought a ton of baskets. I mentioned how baskets are the secret to keeping a house clean previously on a post a little earlier this week. Baskets every size, and every shape are so helpful to have. I know that they can be expensive, but I just found that dollar tree has started carrying super cute baskets, all different colors. I filled up a grocery cart of them and viola, every toy all of a sudden had a home. A place to go that didn't look cluttered. It actually looked well kept. Clean. Lovely.

The girls no longer need to bring every toy out. The sitting room is in a perfect place to play. I can see them from the living room and kitchen. They can see me and therefore play quite contently together. All the toys are together, they can see everything. They can easily bring a basket to the living room if they want and have a much easier time cleaning it all back up and putting it right back where it belongs. My life is just a tad bit easier.
