Quick Catch Up and Doctor Appointment

We have had such a busy few weeks that I have been too exhausted to write anything. Every time I would sit down to start a post, I would instead drag my butt to my bed and fall asleep within five minutes.

July first was Sahara's birthday and birthday party, that needs a post all of its own. I still can't even wrap my head around the fact that she is four. We then went from celebrating her birthday to Independence Day, to my sister's birthday, to a week of Vacation Bible School to several doctor appointments for Isla and one for Sahara's four year check up.

Every day has been crazy and today is the first day that we have not had to go anywhere, but could just lounge about the house. And, boy are we lounging! Girls are sleeping right now, and I still have my pajamas on at one in the afternoon. Lazy, I know.

I have several posts coming about the list of things I wrote above, but I'll just jump down the list to the doctor appointments for Isla because it was totally strange.

Over the first weekend of July, we noticed a large kind of round, red mark on Isla's right side of her chest. Right under her clavicle. It was about the size of a silver dollar. I thought it was strange, but didn't think anything of it. I in fact, just thought it was a stain from a cherry slushy she had had and more wondered what the heck could be in a slushy that could stain a child's skin. We gave her a bath that night and when it was still there in the morning, I wondered if she had gotten a sunburn. That didn't seem too plausible though since I slather the girls in sunscreen pretty much every morning in the summer. Again, I didn't really worry about it. I just thought it strange and wondered what it could be. She was acting like herself and completely normal and so I just kept an eye on it thinking it would go away and that would be that. Fast forward to Thursday. I went to check on her chest while she was eating lunch and discovered it was a giant, hard lump right under the red area. It felt warm to the touch and it was huge. Que freak out. I called the doctors office and they squeezed us in that day to see her. Right after I called them, I called Ja at work and told him about it. He came home to go with us to see what the doctor would say.

We head to the doctors office and after checking it out, he has no idea what it is. He orders blood tests to be done and says he wants to see her in the morning to see if it grows or shrinks and wants to see what the blood results would be. Having blood drawn on a one year, is excruciating. Screamed and screamed. They had to do it twice, once in each arm. It was horrible.

We go home and keep an eye on it and marked it so we would know if it had grown. Morning comes, and it is still huge, still red, still warm. It hadn't gone outside the marks, which we were happy about, but we packed up and headed to the doctors again. The appointment was at 9am. After the doctor checked it again, he thought it had maybe grown a bit. The blood results hadn't come back yet and so he said to stay nearby, he was going to make some phone calls. We left and headed to a store down the road to hang out until we heard from him.

After about a half hour, we get a phone call to head to a dermatologist and that our appointment was in less than an hour. We drive there, and she comes in, and talks about perhaps it could be from having something cold on her skin for a good amount of time. Like maybe the slushy? But, even then she couldn't figure out why it would puff up a long time after the mark appeared. She brought in another doctor and he looked at and said that he didn't think that was it. But, right after he said that, she ushered him out of the room very quickly and talked to him in the hall and then came in alone and said that she was pretty sure that it was from the slushy. Go figure. She scheduled us two more appointments willing to wait to see what it does. If it was gone after the weekend, we could cancel the appointments, if not, she wanted a biopsy done.

And, after a few days and tons of prayer, come Sunday, it was finally coming down and loosing the red hue. Today, the color is back to normal, and the lump is just about gone. Who knows what it was. We are just so thankful that she seems completely fine.

  1. How totally scary! She seemed perfectly healthy & happy as can be at the party. Ava & Sahara were so cute playing together too by the way. :)
