Sahara has an imaginary pet bird she calls Fluff. She got this idea of a bird named Fluff off of an English show called Kipper, which she loves. Let me just say that this bird has caused trouble in my house! The problem? She loves to feed him. Not imaginary food, because, let's face it, how much fun would that be? No, he 'eats' the real stuff. Baby oatmeal, cheerios, pasta, anything tiny that is a major pain to pick up, that's his choice of food. And, as of this last week, I found out he also drinks milk. Who knew?
Our pantry is really a cupboard in the kitchen which the child safety lock doesn't work on, so Sahara has no problem opening it up and helping herself to whatever is in front that looks appealing. Thus feeding Fluff is not that hard to do. It's mostly when I hear silence, that I just prepare myself to pick up the food that Fluff is finished with or not interested in. And, boy is this dumb bird hungry. This is what I came out to the other day:

If any of you were wondering, she didn't get in trouble for this. Nor really does she get in trouble for feeding Fluff at all. I think I find it just too funny to punish her. So, instead I ramble off in explaining that Fluff doesn't eat that much; and Sahara doesn't pay attention. I know that my method isn't really useful, but really, when she is standing there so proud of herself for feeding her imaginary bird, how could I punish her?!? Instead, I just remind myself that someday she will grow out of all this pretending and how much I will miss it. So, until then, we will continue to make Fluff's stomach bulge.
That is so cute!! I have your solution (hopefully this works), get her a very special dish for fluff's food. Then put that on a tray, this will make the whole thing easier to clean up :)
ReplyDeleteoh man that is the cutest thing ever! What a sweet girl...I love your positive outlook on it too! Sarah's suggestion sounds like a good one.
