Miss Isla's Birthday

Next April baby, Isla! She turned two this year, and she is quite the independent thing around here. She wants to do mostly everything herself. I think she wears her shoes on the wrong feet almost every day. She hates to have her hair done, and yells 'no! no! no!' the entire time I put it up in a ponytail. Many times, I don't even try, or just settle with a clip that I know she will pull out in about ten minutes.

Isla has the best sense of humor and is the funniest person that I know. Literally, the funniest. She comes up with new phrases everyday and makes the best facial expressions I have seen. She is also the most accident-prone child I have ever met. She has bumps, bruises, and scrapes all. the. time. The girl can be sitting at the table one minute, and on the floor the next minute. She has no fear, which could play a huge role into why she is always getting hurt. She will climb the highest. Run as fast as she can. And, she loves to fight! Her most said phrase is 'hi ya!' (say it in a karate voice and picture her trying to kick her leg out straight). Her second most said phrase is 'I'm sorry' except she says it in French. (We have been learning French, and that was one of the first phrases we learned. She knows it by heart and as soon as her sister starts crying after having gotten a beating by her, we hear her saying sorry in French over and over again.)
Even though Isla is the bruiser in our family, she and her sister get along famously. They are forever playing together, giggling, taking care of babies, or building forts. They are best friends and 98% of the time, get along beautifully. Isla is quick to defend her sister and comes running if Daddy and Sahara are play wrestling and Daddy is winning! Let's just say, he doesn't win most the time!

Isla is our little one who has no problem playing on her own. She loves to sit down and play dollhouse for hours by herself. She reads books throughout the day. And, she will play forever in the bath. She is a cuddle bug and loves loves loves her milk.

This year, she didn't want just one theme. We had several. We had wild animals on her cake and a Minnie Mouse pinata. Her plates and napkins were princesses. We had just a family party with a BBQ. She had a blast and got a ton of presents.

Happy birthday, Little Isla! You are my funny, sassy sugar-pie! You have brought more laughter and joy into our home than I thought possible after such heartache. You can make us laugh with a simple look and make our hearts melt with a sweet "I love you, my Mama." I love you more than words could say.
Love, your Mama
