Tonight we had an incident that I never really imagined I would ever have to deal with. But, once again, parenthood has brought surprises.
Sahara asked for some carrots after dinner tonight, and while I was cleaning the kitchen, she was happily munching away. After about 10 minutes, she told me that her nose was hurting, and that there was a carrot in her nose.
I looked, and sure enough, there is a carrot shoved up her right nostril. Que me freaking out. Ja called my folks, and thinking that this is hilarious, is laughing and joking on the phone. I was thinking, oh my gosh, she has this huge piece of carrot up her nose. We're not going to be able to get it out. The doctor might have to do surgery. Thinking about all the worse scenarios, and making myself more and more upset. I do a pretty good job at not freaking out too much to scare Sahara. But after both Ja and I tried our best at getting it out, we quickly gave up and headed to the urgent care. While we were in the car, Ja was so sweet and talked me down to a calm state of mind, telling me that she won't need surgery and that it will not be a big deal.
Once we got to the urgent care, we filled out a couple of papers and had to write what we were coming in for. I felt a little foolish writing about a carrot stuck up her nose. And, I suppose this is why the nurse came out chuckling while she called Sahara's name. Everyone was really nice, though, and had a good sense of humor. Sahara did really well. I liked the doctor and nurse that helped. They were so good with her and she was such a good girl laying there so still while they tried to get this carrot out of her nose with tweezers. He had two sizes of tweezers, had her blow her nose a few times, and finally it came out. Seriously, I was stunned by the size of the carrot that came out! (gross, I know, but it was absolutely huge!) I couldn't even believe she could fit it into the opening of her nose. It had to have hurt so bad! (She kept telling me it hurt, but because her pain tolerance is so high, she only cried for a minute when we were trying to get it out). The doctor was also stunned, and actually put it in a bag telling us we had to take it home.
Sahara was happy to have it out, and when we were leaving, she kept saying, "we got it! we did it!"

Haha, I love it. I would have freaked out also but that is really funny. I'm so glad it didn't really hurt her when they removed it.
