Potty Training

So I have decided that potty training is for the birds. I feel like we take 2 steps forward and then 1 step back. Sometimes, it's 1 step forward and 3 steps back. I thought she would have been potty trained by now, in all honesty, but apparently, she didn't have the same hopes and goals as I did. I know that she is still little, I mean she just turned two in July, but she was so interested in using the potty back when she was just over 1.

It's hard to not compare your child to everyone's kid. And, potty training just seems to bring that out in me! I thought I was doing a pretty good job at not comparing Sahara to every other child we met, but as I know have come to notice, I have been doing that since she was born. Weights, heights, head circumference, which she is always smaller than everyone, but this doesn't bother me at all. She is really petite and tiny, but a perfect little lady in my eyes. Talking, walking, running, climbing, but mostly talking, I have noticed she does a lot more of it and way clearer than most kids her age. Wherever we go, someone always comments on how well she speaks and how much she talks! So, I guess when I was comparing, Sahara, in my book, was winning. This sounds absolutely terrible to say, but I am just being honest...or biased. :)

But, the potty training just isn't going as well as everything else. She gets a sweet after each time she goes, and she gets to pick out the sweets she wants at the store. We bought her panties, which she chose ponies, and loves most the time. We were doing so well the other day, and then the next day, there were a couple of accidents. So, we are back with diapers as of now. (Mostly because I still have not done the laundry that has been piling up and her three pairs of panties are in there.)

I think I thought it was going to be a lot easier, like she would basically train herself...haha, I know. But, it's turning out to be quite a bit more difficult than I thought. But, I guess that's just part of parenting. We'll keep working on it and I'm hoping she will at least be out of diapers by the times she is three. Fingers crossed!

We went to the beach a few weeks ago, and although it was freezing, she only wanted to wear her bathing suit. She absolutely loved the beach, and talks about going back there every day.

  1. Give yourself a break girl! This is so normal. I was exactly like you, I had Ava sooo interested at the age of 1 and I thought, oh, we got this! Turns out it took more like 2 1/2. And the whole process?? PAINFUL. I have heard so many people say "You can take years to potty train your child or a week, you either do it when you want or when they are actually ready." Technically we are STILL having issues as Ava still wears a pull up to bed. I started feeling really bad about that and decided to force the issue, turns out that was like hitting my head against a brick wall too. The doctor said she is not physically ready yet and not to sweat it.

Sahara will get it soon, don't worry!! Oh and the panties thing? I recommend closer to 15-20 pairs :)
When people asked me what she wanted for her birthday I said PANTIES!! :) Good luck! Hang in there!
